Free up Space on Your Mac with these Quick Tips

Do you clear some space on your Mac? When your Mac has run out of free space, it will start to lag. The apps might freeze and crash, the processes might start to run slowly, and all your tasks will get delayed. Working on a MacBook that runs slowly and takes ages to open a file or program cannot be very pleasant. Save yourself from going through this frustration by freeing up space on your device. Look at these effortless tricks.

Empty the Trash Right Now!

Nobody thinks about emptying the Trash when talking about freeing up hard drive space. However, you need to check if items are stored in the Trash because that can take up a lot of system space. On the Dock, you have to right-click the Trash icon and choose Empty Trash. However, be careful before confirming Empty Trash because once this data is gone, you won’t get it back again.

If you want the Trash to empty itself, head to Finder automatically> click Preferences > click Advanced and tick on the Remove Items from the Trash After 30 Days option. But you must be careful not to send important items to Trash, or they will be permanently deleted after thirty days.

Get Rid of all the Large Files on Your System

If you have been using your system for a long time, your device may overflow with files and folders you no longer use. You might not even remember all the large mail attachments or PDFs you downloaded a while back. These items can take up a lot of space. So, you need to find large files Mac and delete them immediately. After you have deleted them, don’t forget to empty the Trash.

Remove the Apps you don’t Need

There’s no point in installing different applications on your system unless you need them. Filling your Mac with useless applications will only take up space and make your system run slowly. So, browse through your list of apps and uninstall the ones you don’t use anymore.

You can head to the App Store and choose the applications that have lost their value to you. Then, click on the Uninstall option, and don’t forget to remove all the residual data to clear your system truly.

Alternatively, you can click on the Apple logo icon and choose About This Mac. Then, go to the Storage section and click on the Manage option. Next, you must click on the Application tab and browse through the list of installed apps. Finally, uninstall the ones you don’t use and click Delete.

Plunder the Documents and Downloads Folders

These two folders contain large and duplicate files. You must have downloaded several mail attachments or PDFs, and they’re still in the Downloads folder. You may have downloaded movies, music, or pictures, which takes up space in the Documents folder. No matter what files you have on your device, get rid of them if you don’t need them.

Navigate to the Storage Management window and select the Documents option. You will see a wide range of files here, and you can sort them from the biggest to the smallest in size. If you can remove a few of the large files, a large chunk of space will be cleared. You can delete a file by clicking on it and selecting Delete.

As for the Downloads folder, you can go through it and delete the files you don’t need. Once they are deleted, go to the Trash and empty it.

Optimize Storage in the Photos Application

Are you paying for a 50GB iCloud Driver tier or more? Whatever the case, it is wise to consider utilizing the Storage feature found on the Photos application. The feature works brilliantly because it does not keep your entire iCloud Photo Library on your system. Thanks to this feature, the most recent photos will be kept on the device and come with low-resolution thumbnails. If you need these photos, you can download them from iCloud. Using this feature, you can save a couple of gigabytes of your hard drive.

Shift your Files to the Cloud

Use cloud storage options to keep your system free. You can clear space by moving all the important files to a cloud storage solution. You can easily download these files to your device and use them whenever you need them. Furthermore, storing files in the cloud means accessing them from any device and anywhere. So, do not hesitate to take advantage of this solution.

Final Thoughts

Clearing space on your Mac isn’t difficult; you can do so quickly by downloading a cleaner application. If you wish to review each file before deleting it, you can follow the manual methods explained above. So, get started and quickly free up space on your Mac.
